Staff Selection Commission will hold an open competitive Examination for recruitment of Junior Engineers (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Quantity Surveying & Contracts) for various Departments/ Organizations in the Government of India. The posts are Group „B‟ (Non-Gazetted), in Level- 6 (Rs 35400-112400/-) of pay matrix of 7th Central Pay Commission.

SSC JE (JUNIOR ENGINEER) Scheme of Examination / SSC JE 2018 Exam Pattern
The Examination will consist of two Papers i.e. Paper-I (Computer Based Examination) and Paper-II (Descriptive Type). Details of these Papers are as follows:
Paper-I || Objective Type (Date of Examination: 23-09-2019 to 27-09-2019) || Computer Base Examination
(i) General Intelligence and Reasoning —— 50 Questions ———50 Marks
(ii) General Awareness —— 50 Questions ———50 Marks
(iii) Part-A General Engineering (Civil & Structural) —— 100 Questions ———100 Marks
or Part-B General Engineering (Electrical) —— 100 Questions ———100 Marks
or Part-C General Engineering (Mechanical) —— 100 Questions ———100 Marks
Duration & Timings :- 2 Hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for the candidates who are allowed use of scribe as per Para-9.2 of Notification)
Paper-II || (Descriptive Type) (Date of Examination: 29-12-2019) || Written Examination
Part-A General Engineering (Civil & Structural) ———— 300 Marks
or
Part- B General Engineering (Electrical) ———— 300 Marks
or
Part-C General Engineering (Mechanical) ———— 300 Marks
Duration & Timings :- 2 Hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for the candidates who are allowed use of scribe as per Para-9.2 of Notification)
Important Points
- In Paper-I and Paper-II for General Engineering, the candidate will be required to attempt only the part as per option given in the application form filled by the candidate. In other words, the candidates appearing for the post of Junior Engineer (Civil), Junior Engineer (Quantity Surveying & Contracts) should attempt Part A (Civil & Structural) of Paper-I and Paper-II and the candidates appearing for the post of Junior Engineer (Electrical) should attempt Part-B (Electrical) and the candidates appearing for the post of Junior Engineer (Mechanical) should attempt Part C (Mechanical) of Paper-I and Paper-II failing which his/ her answer sheet (PaperII) will not be evaluated.
- There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.
- Candidates are allowed to bring their own Slide–Rule, Calculator, Logarithm Tables and Steam Table for Paper-II only. They are not allowed to use such aids for Paper-I.
- Answer Keys will be placed on the Commission‟s website after the Examination. Candidates may go through the Answer Keys corresponding to their Test Form and submit representations, if any, within the time limit given by the Commission through on-line modality 14 only, on payment of Rs 100/- per question. Any representation regarding Answer Key received within the time limit fixed by the Commission at the time of uploading of the Answer Key will be scrutinized and the decision of the Commission in this regard will be final. No representation regarding Answer Keys shall be entertained later.
- Marks scored by candidates in Paper-I will be normalized and such normalized scores will be used to determine final merit and cut-off marks.
SSC JE (Junior Engineer) Examination 2018 Syllabus (Paper 1 and Paper 2)
Paper-I:
1. General Intelligence & Reasoning: The Syllabus for General Intelligence would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. The test may include questions on analogies, similarities, differences, space visualization, problem solving, analysis, judgment, decision making, visual memory, discrimination, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetical reasoning, verbal and figure classification, arithmetical number series, etc. The test will also include questions designed to test the candidate‟s abilities to deal with abstract ideas and symbols and their relationships, arithmetical computations and other analytical functions.
2. General Awareness: Questions will be aimed at testing the candidate‟s general awareness of the environment around him/ her and its application to society. Questions will also be designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observations and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of any educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General Polity and Scientific Research, etc. These questions will be such that they do not require a special study of any discipline.
3. General Engineering: Civil & Structural, Electrical and Mechanical:
Part-A (Civil Engineering): Building Materials, Estimating, Costing and Valuation, Surveying, Soil Mechanics, Hydraulics, Irrigation Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental Engineering. Structural Engineering: Theory of Structures, Concrete Technology, RCC Design, Steel Design.
Part-B (Electrical Engineering): Basic concepts, Circuit law, Magnetic Circuit, AC Fundamentals, Measurement and Measuring instruments, Electrical Machines, Fractional Kilowatt Motors and single phase induction Motors, Synchronous Machines, Generation, Transmission and Distribution, Estimation and Costing, Utilization and Electrical Energy, Basic Electronics.
Part-C Mechanical Engineering): Theory of Machines and Machine Design, Engineering Mechanics and Strength of Materials, 15 Properties of Pure Substances, 1st Law of Thermodynamics, 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, Air standard Cycles for IC Engines, IC Engine Performance, IC Engines Combustion, IC Engine Cooling & Lubrication, Rankine cycle of System, Boilers, Classification, Specification, Fitting & Accessories, Air Compressors & their cycles, Refrigeration cycles, Principle of Refrigeration Plant, Nozzles & Steam Turbines. Properties & Classification of Fluids, Fluid Statics, Measurement of Fluid Pressure, Fluid kinematics, Dynamics of Ideal fluids, Measurement of Flow rate, basic principles, Hydraulic Turbines, Centrifugal Pumps, Classification of steel.
